NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Twenty-four former Notre Dame players and coaches, as well as three current Irish coaches, will serve as staff members for the 2004 Notre Dame Football Fantasy Camp, which runs from June 30 through July 4.
Of the 19 returning players, seven were members of a national championship team at Notre Dame, eight served as a captain for the Irish and 11 garnered All-America honors during his college career.
Among those returning are quarterbacks Ron Powlus, who holds four career and two single-season Notre Dame passing records, and Tony Rice, an ’89 All-American and recipient of the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award. Wide receivers Jim Seymour, a three-time All-American, Tom Gatewood, Notre Dame’s career receptions leader, and Derrick Mayes, the school’s all-time leader in receiving yards and touchdown receptions, as well as All-America running backs Reggie Brooks and Mark Green, will also serve as offensive coaches.
Three-time All-America linebacker Bob Crable, the school’s career leader in tackles, defensive end Walt Patulski, the ’71 Lombardi Award winner and first overall pick in the ’72 NFL draft, and two-time All-America defensive back Dave Duerson highlight the camp’s defensive staff.
This year’s camp also features former Irish coaches Brian Boulac and Tony Yelovich, both currently assistant athletic directors at Notre Dame, Peter Vaas, currently working as a head coach in NFL Europe, and Tom Pagna, who served as Notre Dame’s offensive backs coach for a decade.
Current Notre Dame coaches Greg Mattison, John McDonell and Steven Wilks have also signed on to lend a hand at the camp. In addition to lending positional expertise to the participants, the trio will be responsible for directing the campers’ workouts.
