Senior pitcher Brittney Bargar, who cemented herself as one of the top pitchers to ever wear an Irish uniform after a tremendous junior campaign, will shoulder the load from the circle for Notre Dame during the 2009 season.

Sept. 12, 2008

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Notre Dame softball team will get the fall season underway with two contests on Sunday (Sept. 14) at the Chicagoland Softball Tournament in Joilet, Ill. The Fighting Irish are slated to face DePaul at 9:00 a.m. (CT) and Northern Illinois (11:00 a.m.) to open their fall campaign.

Notre Dame plays host to Western Michigan and Loyola-Chicago at Melissa Cook Stadium on Sept. 28, followed by a pair of battles at Michigan on Oct. 12.

“These next few weeks are pivotal for us to see what we need to work on during the winter in preparation for the spring,” said Irish head coach Deanna Gumpf. “We’re excited to play against some great programs, and we should be able to gauge where we stand as a team when it’s all said and done. Our players have been working hard and we expect great things from them throughout the season.”

The Irish finished the 2008 campaign with a 38-22-1 record and an appearance in the NCAA Ann Arbor Regional. The team welcomes four newcomers and returns 14 monogram winners, including six all-BIG EAST performers and NFCA all-region pitcher Brittney Bargar.
