NOTRE DAME, Ind. — After posting seven assists in Notre Dame’s weekend series against Omaha, senior forward Jake Evans was named the Big Ten Hockey Third Star of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday morning (Oct. 31).
In game one against the Mavericks (Oct. 26), Evans recorded a career-high four assists. He became the first Irish player to post a four-assist game since Stephen Johns did so on Dec. 29, 2010. He followed up that performance with three assists in Notre Dame’s 5-4 win in game two of the series (Oct. 27) for his fifth multi-point game of the season.
Evans, who was also named the Big Ten’s First Star on Oct. 10, is currently leading the nation in both points (15) and assists (12). Nine of his 15 points have come at even strength and he has one short-handed tally. The Irish captain also ranks first in faceoffs won (128).
Tenth-ranked Notre Dame will open Big Ten conference play with its first road games of the season against No. 16 Ohio State (Nov. 3-4) at Value City Arena. Puck drop for both games is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET, and game one of the series will be televised by the Big Ten Network.
