Notre Dame, Ind. – Erika Whitman has been appointed sports nutritionist at the University of Notre Dame. Whitman, who has extensive experience in the field of nutrition, will work in conjunction with the Irish strength and conditioning and athletic training staffs counseling and educating student-athletes on nutrition in order to achieve optimal performance levels.

Prior to joining the Notre Dame staff, she had served since November of 2006 as coordinator of sports nutrition at the University of Florida. Before taking the post at Florida, Whitman spent three years (2003-06) as a health educator for the Health & Nutrition Technology (HNT) Program for Health and Weight Management in Indianapolis, Ind.

She also worked as a nutritionist for the Pennsylvania Nutrition Education Program (PANEP) in State College, Pa., after joining the Penn State University Sports Nutrition Clinic as a sports nutrition assistant in January of 2003.

Whitman received her bachelor’s of science degree in nutrition and dietetics from the University of Delaware in May of 2002. A Dean’s List student during all eight semesters and the recipient of an academic scholarship while at the University, she was one of five students selected for the Nutrition and Dietetics Panel of Distinguished Seniors in May of 2003 and received a scholarship to study in Hawaii during the summer of 2001.

While a student at Delaware, Whitman was inducted into the Kappa Omicron Nu Nutrition and Dietetics Honor Society, the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society, the National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS) and the Golden Key National Honor Society.

Following graduation, she completed an internship as an approved dietetic at St. Luke’s Hospital-Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Fla.
