Jaclyn Espinoza will make her fourth straight NCAA outdoor appearance next week for the Irish.

Eight Qualify For NCAA Track And Field Championships

June 1, 2010

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Notre Dame will send eight student-athletes to the 2010 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships held June 9-12 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. Highlighting the eight qualifiers is discus thrower Jaclyn Espinoza, who will make her fourth straight appearance in the NCAA Championships. Espinoza becomes the first woman in Irish history to compete in four consecutive outdoor championship meets (Molly Huddle earned invitations in 2003, 2004, 2006 and 2007).

Espinoza (49.79m) is the 24th seeded thrower in her respective event, as she will be joined on the women’s side by Jessica Rydberg (34:59.42) in the 10,000m run and Elise Knutzen (45.22m) in the javelin. Knutzen is the first ever women’s javelin thrower to represent the Irish at nationals. Eugene Oberst finished second overall on the men’s side in 1921.

Daniel Clark (3:43.08), who won the 1,500m run last week at the East Regional meet, is eighth overall heading into the season’s finale. Dan Jackson (29:54.24) will compete in the 10,000m run, an event in which All-American Patrick Smyth finished fourth for the Irish in 2009.

Kevin Schipper (5.25m) is set to break a sweat in his first NCAA appearance in the pole vault one year after his brother, Matt, also did so for Notre Dame.

Eric Quick (15.70m), the first men’s representative ever in the triple jump, is seeded 20th, and Denes Veres (17.90m) will make his NCAA debut in the shot put as the 19th seed.
