MOSCOW, Idaho – In the first day of the Idaho Volleyball Classic at Memorial Gym, Notre Dame dropped a 3-1 (25-23, 21-25, 25-23, 25-19) match to Eastern Washington on Friday evening. The Irish fell to 2-2 overall with the Eagles improving to 2-2.

Junior Christina Kaelin crushed 20 kills for the Irish on a .286 clip with five digs. Junior Serinity Phillips had nine kills and 13 digs with freshmen Kristen Dealy (17 digs) and Frenchy Silva (18 digs) turning in solid defensive efforts for the visiting squad.

Notre Dame managed a .127 hitting percentage for the match and Eastern Washington attacked at a .195 average. The Eagles were led by Hayley Hills’ 17 kills.

Five ties and two lead changes marked a first set that saw Eastern Washington escape with a two-point win. One set later, 10 tied counts and five lead changes helped Notre Dame claim its lone set. Eastern Washington earned another two-point win in the third set before taking the final frame by a six-point margin.

Junior setter Jamel Nicholas had 35 assists for Notre Dame and junior Tara Enzweiler continued her steady play at the net by chipping in eight blocks. Notre Dame plays a pair of matches on Saturday (Sept. 7), facing Washington State at 10 a.m. (PT) and host Idaho at 7 p.m.
