Dyer Named Men's Division I Swimmer, BIG EAST Athlete Of The Week

Nov. 14, 2012

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – University of Notre Dame junior Frank Dyer (Loudonville, N.Y.) has been named the Counsilman-Hunsaker NCAA Men’s Division I Swimmer of the Week and the BIG EAST Conference Athlete of the Week in men’s swimming and diving. The honors were in recognition of his performances in the team’s recent victories over Pittsburgh and No. 16/23 Louisville.

Dyer was a double-winner in both of Notre Dame’s home meets last weekend, and his 100 free time of 45.09 against Pittsburgh clocked in just above an NCAA B-cut, as did his efforts in the 200 free (1:36.85) and 500 free (4:29.11) against Louisville. He also swam a season-best 20.28 50 free split with the second place 200 free relay team in the win over Louisville, the program’s first dual victory over the Cardinals since 2006.

Dyer has claimed gold in each of the primary free distances (50, 100, 200, 500 and 1,000) this season. The 2012 All-American has also doubled in individual competition at each meet during the team’s 5-0 start, the best opening stretch for the Fighting Irish since 2006-07 (8-0).

The Fighting Irish return to the pool at the Hawkeye Invitational Nov. 30-Dec. 2 in Iowa City, Iowa.
