Dec. 6, 2011

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Notre Dame sophomore Frank Dyer has been named the BIG EAST Conference Men’s Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week for the second time this season, as announced by the league on Tuesday.

Women’s swimmer Emma Reaney earned the BIG EAST Women’s Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week citation to give the Irish a clean sweep of the weekly awards.

Dyer had a hand in provisionally qualifying for six NCAA events and broke three records while participating at last week’s Hawkeye Invitational hosted by the University of Iowa. Dyer set a school, pool and meet record while finishing first in the 200 freestyle in 1:35.58. This time currently sits as the nation’s seventh-fastest in the event.

Dyer earned NCAA provisional times in three individual events, including the 500 free (4:22.28), 50 free (20.19) and 100 free (44.65). He also helped secure three relay B-cuts in the 200 free relay (1:20.80), the 200 medley relay (1:29.24) and the 400 free relay (2:59.31).

Notre Dame (4-3) heads to Puerto Rico after Christmas for its annual winter training session before returning to campus in January to finish the dual meet season.
