NOTRE DAME, Ind. – University of Notre Dame men’s soccer left back Felicien Dumas has joined the ranks of Irish standouts to be drafted into MLS. Dumas was selected as the 48th overall pick (second round) by New York City FC on Thursday in the 2020 MLS SuperDraft.
The selection of Dumas extended the total number of Notre Dame MLS picks to 37 in program history (first selection came in 1997), including 24 players that have been chosen during the draft’s opening two rounds (10 in the first round). Dumas is the first Irish player to be selected by NYCFC.
Dumas thrived in multiple positions for the Irish during the 2019 season, splitting time between defense and midfield positions. The left-footed captain earned two ACC Defensive Player of the Week honors throughout the season and has wreaked havoc on opposing teams defenses with his set pieces. Dumas scored three goals from free kicks this season and added six assists while also playing a key role in defense.
Dumas finishes his Irish career with 60 appearances over the course of four seasons at Notre Dame. The defender recorded seven goals and 20 assists and helped the Irish reach the NCAA Championships in all four seasons.
