University of Notre Dame men’s lacrosse goaltender Shane Doss has been named the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association/Lids Team Sports National Player of the Week.

That honor comes a day after Doss shared the Atlantic Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Week honor with Ben Williams of Syracuse.

Doss won the same USILA award a year ago after posting a 9-0 victory over 15th-ranked Ohio State.

Doss, a junior from Glen Ridge, New Jersey, played lights-out early in Notre Dame’s 2016 opener last Saturday against 13th-rated Georgetown, making six first-period saves to enable the Irish to break out to a 4-0 advantage after that opening period. He finished with 14 saves in the 12-7 Irish win, Notre Dame’s 14th straight opening-day victory.

After one week in the 2016 Notre Dame regular season, Doss stands fifth nationally in save percentage (.667), ninth in saves per game (14.0) and 13th in goals-against average (7.0).

Doss is now 17-6 as a starter after opening in goal in Notre Dame’s final 14 contests in 2015.

The Irish, rated atop the current Inside Lacrosse (media) and Lacrosse magazine polls, continue their 2016 schedule this week with home games at 5 p.m. Wednesday against Bellarmine and at 2 p.m. Saturday against Detroit.
