Diver Meghan Perry-Eaton Qualifies For NCAA Meet

March 15, 2003

Oxford, Ohio – Irish junior Meghan Perry-Eaton, the 2003 BIG EAST Conference Diver of the Year, placed third on the one-meter board Saturday and qualified for the 2003 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships to be held Thursday-Saturday, March 20-22 in Auburn, Ala. Perry-Eaton becomes the second diver in Notre Dame history to qualify for the NCAA meet and follows in the footsteps of Heather Mattingly who earned All-America honors for the Irish in 2002 after placing eight on the three-meter board at the NCAA meet last season.

In Oxford at the NCAA Zone Diving Meet, Perry-Eaton concluded the one-meter event with 557.80 points. Indiana’s Sara Hildebrand was first with 585.15 points, followed by Iowa’s Lisette Planken with 583.55 points. Nine divers qualified for the NCAA meet, so with Perry-Eaton’s third-place finish today and her seventh-place finish in the three-meter event she will travel to Auburn next weekend and join teammates Lisa Garcia, Danielle Hulick and Marie Labosky for the NCAA meet.

In the men’s competition, senior Joe Miller was 18th at 383.00, while senior Andy Maggio concluded his career by missing the cut with 211.50 points.
