Defenseman Drew Bavaro Joins The Irish

SOUTH BEND, Ind.  – The University of Notre Dame hockey team has added transfer Drew Bavaro ahead of the 2022-23 season. Bavaro, a defenseman, recently completed his sophomore season at Bentley University (AHA).

A Bradenton, Florida native, Bavaro skated in 36 games for the Falcons in 2021-22, totaling nine goals and adding 18 assists for 27 points and he was a First Team All-Atlantic Hockey selection. His 18 assists and 27 points were the top marks on the team, while his nine goals ranked third. 

As a freshman during the abbreviated 2020-21 season, Bavaro earned Atlantic Hockey All-Rookie Team honors after registering 12 points on two goals and 10 assists while playing in each of Bentley’s 16 games. He tied for sixth in the AHA in points among freshmen and tied for ninth in points among defensemen. He scored his first career goal in Bentley’s 4-2 win over Army West Point (Dec. 4). He was also named the Atlantic Hockey Rookie of the Week on Feb. 2. He added two assists in a 7-3 win over Air Force in the first round of the Atlantic Hockey playoffs.

Bavaro played the 2019-20 season with the Wenatchee Wild of the BCHL, skating in 51 games while scoring nine goals and adding 24 assists for 33 points. Prior to Wenatchee, he skated for Lawrence Academy and the Neponset Valley River Rats (18U and 16U).
