Deehan Named Volunteer Assistant

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Notre Dame head women’s lacrosse coach Christine Halfpenny announced the addition of Bridget Deehan to the staff as a volunteer assistant coach.

Deehan returns to Notre Dame after a decorated five year career with the Irish. She was  a two time team captain, a six time All-American during her career, and a 2021 Tewaaraton nominee. 

“We are thrilled to welcome Bridget back to Notre Dame as an assistant coach. She brings a wealth of playing experience to the sidelines after a successful playing career here at ND,” said Coach Halfpenny.

“She will make an immediate impact assisting with our goalie preparation and will also assist in the areas of practice/game preparation, scouting/film breakdown, team building, and leadership development. Bridget’s passion to continue to serve the Notre Dame Women’s Lacrosse Program is palpable and we couldn’t be happier to have an alumni of her character and accomplishments back at Arlotta Stadium.”

Deehan tallied 453 saves over her five year career with a save percentage of 0.467. This past season Deehan played in all 19 games for the Irish, while notching a career high of 19 saves in a game. She was named to the ACC All-Academic team, All-ACC Second Team, and was a Preseason All-ACC honoree.

As a senior, Deehan made seven saves to help clinch the first-ever shutout in the NCAA Division I Women’s Lacrosse Tournament vs. Robert Morris. She recorded double-digit saves in nine contests, and at the time, she recorded a career-best 14 saves. Deehan led the ACC with 9.28 saves per game, and finished the year with 11.78 goals-against average. She was named the 2021 U.S. Lacrosse Magazine Preseason Goaltender of the Year, and U.S. Lacrosse Magazine Preseason First Team All-American.

In 2020, Deehan was named the Breakout Player of the Year by Inside Lacrosse. She finished fifth in the country in save percentage (.547) and seventh in the country with a goals-against average of 7.78. She helped propel the Irish defense to being ranked second in the country with a mark of 7.29 goals allowed per game.

In her freshman and sophomore years, she appeared in 20 games for the Irish. She appeared in the NCAA Tournament second round game in her sophomore year where she recorded 11 saves.
