Deceased Members of the Irish Football Family To Be Honored Before Kickoff

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Before Notre Dame opens the 2014 season against Rice on Saturday, members of the University of Notre Dame football family who have passed away during the last year will be recognized as part of the pre-game ceremonies.

A moment of silence will be observed following the flag presentation, and the names of all those individuals honored will be scrolled on the stadium message boards. The following is a list of the former players, managers, and other football family members who will be remembered:

  • Phil Colella ’49 (LH, 1945)
  • Frank Gaul ’49 (T, 1945, 1947-48)
  • Donald George (LE, 1953-54)
  • John Graif ’46 (student manager)
  • Bob Hargrave, Sr. ’42 (QB, 1939-41)
  • Bob Livingstone ’48 (HB, 1942, 1946-47)
  • John Mazur ’52 (QB, 1949-51)
  • Leo McKillip ’51 (HB, 1948-50)
  • Tom Potter ’47 (LG, 1945-46)
  • Nick Raich ’56 (FB, 1953-54)
  • Bob Ready ’55 (T, 1951-54)
  • Frank Tripucka ’49 (QB, 1945-48)
  • Robert and Gloria VanGorder (parents of defensive coordinator Brian VanGorder)

Saturday marks the 238th consecutive sellout at Notre Dame Stadium. The Fighting Irish and Owls will kick off at 3:41 p.m. ET on NBC.
