NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Members of the University of Notre Dame football family who have died during the past year will be recognized as part of the pre-game flag presentation, including a moment of silence, prior to the start of Notre Dame’s 2010 season-opening football game Saturday against Purdue at Notre Dame Stadium.

The national colors will be presented Saturday by six individuals:

  • Current Notre Dame receiver coach Tony Alford and his mother Gloria Alford (their father and husband Robert Sr. died in June).
  • Current Notre Dame player Alex Bullard and his mother Dorothy Bullard (their father and husband Louis died in April).
  • Jerry and Peggy James, whose son Matt – an incoming freshman player for 2010 – lost his life last April.

Joining them in the presentation will be Notre Dame athletics director Jack Swarbrick and his wife Kimberly.

It’s expected that the flag presentation each year at the Notre Dame football home opener will honor deceased players and other members of the Notre Dame football family from the past year.
