Day One In The Books At NCAA Outdoor Championships

DES MOINES, Iowa – Day one at the 2012 NCAA Track and Field Outdoor Championships in Des Moines, Iowa wrapped up for the Irish, as four Notre Dame student-athletes took part in the day’s festivities.

Freshman Kaila Barber (400m Hurdles), sophomore Megan Yanik (400m Hurdles), sophomore Patrick Feeney (400m) and sophomore Martin Grady (10,000m) all competed on Wednesday night. None advanced to the finals, but all put up respectable showings against the nation’s elite.

Feeney took 19th overall, and sixth in heat three, with a time of 46.41.

Yanik (59.75) and Barber (1:00.27) finished 20th and 22nd, respectively, in the 400m hurdles. Yanik took seventh in heat three, while Barber finished seventh in heat two.

Grady closed out the night with a 20th place showing in the 10,000m in a time of 30:32.93.

Several members of the two squads see action on Thursday as Johnathan Shawel (1,500m), Rebecca Tracy (1,500m), Jessica Rydberg (10,000m) and both the men’s and women’s 4x400m relay teams are set to compete. Links to ESPN3 and live stats are available on UND.com.
