Day 2 Complete At Alabama

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The second day of play has concluded for four University of Notre Dame men’s tennis student-athletes at the Crimson Tide 4-In-The-Fall tournament at the University of Alabama Tennis Stadium.

Each doubles pairing earned wins on the day. Freshman Paul Gota and junior Nathan Griffin downed Jacob Eskeland and Oscar Janglin of Rice, 8-4, in their first match of the day. Junior Daniel Rayl and sophomore Conor Somers defeated Oklahoma’s Ferran Calvo and James Davis, 8-4, in their second match, good for third place on the championship side of the bracket.

The Irish went 0-4 in singles on the day.

The final day of competition will kick off at 10 a.m. ET Sunday with one remaining round of singles play.

Joanne Norell, athletics communications assistant director at the University of Notre Dame, has been part of the Fighting Irish athletics communications team since 2014 and coordinates communications efforts for the Notre Dame men’s tennis, women’s tennis and fencing programs, in addition to overseeing production of the football Gameday Magazine. Norell is a 2011 graduate of Purdue University and earned her master’s degree from Georgetown University in 2013.
