Davey, Nixon and Suddarth compete at U.S. Swimming Open

San Antonio, Texas – The Notre Dame women’s swimming team was well represented Thursday-Saturday, Dec. 2-4, at the 1999 U.S. Open meet in San Antonio, Texas, as sophomore Brooke Davey, junior Carrie Nixon and senior Shannon Suddarth all swan three events for the Irish.

Nixon had the strongest showings at the three-day meet as she placed 27th in the 100-meter butterfly and 29th in the 50-meter freestyle. Nixon finished the 100 butterfly in a time of 1:03.65 and the 50 freestyle in 27.01. She also placed 55th in the 100 freestyle with a time 59.12.

Davey also competed in the 50 and 100 freestyle, as well as the 200 freestyle. Davey placed 50th in the 50 freestyle with a time of 27.28, 102nd in the 100 freestyle in 1:00.38 and 105th in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:10.06.

Suddarth swam in the 100 and 200-meter breaststroke races and the 200 individual medley. Suddarth’s best finish was in the 200 breaststroke as she completed the race in 2:43.34. Suddarth also placed 72nd in the 100 breaststroke (1:16.24) and 119th in the 200 IM (2:30.54).

The rest of the Irish women’s swimming team is home as they are competing in the three-day Notre Dame Invitational at Rolfs Aquatic Center. The meet concludes tonight with finals at 6:30 p.m. The Irish then are off until Monday, Jan. 10, 2000, when they travel to St. Croix in the Virgin Islands for the St. Croix Invitational.
