April 18, 2006

Washington, D.C. – Notre Dame senior midfield/attack standout Crysti Foote (Suffern, N.Y.) has been selected as one of 21 nominees for the 2006 Tewaaraton Trophy that is presented annually to the top male and female collegiate lacrosse players in the nation.

The award, the most coveted and prestigious award a varsity lacrosse player can receive is a symbol of excellence in college lacrosse. The list of 21 nominees will be cut to five finalists in May with the award to be presented on June 1, 2006 in Washington, D.C.

Foote becomes the second Notre Dame women’s lacrosse player nominated for the award as she joins Meredith Simon `04 who was nominated during the 2004 season.

The Irish scoring leader has been among the leaders in goals, assists and points nationally all season long. As of April 18, Foote leads Notre Dame in scoring with a single-season school record 51 goals to go with 24 assists for a single-season record 75 points through 13 games. Foote’s scoring and leadership skills have the Irish ranked seventh in the nation in the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) poll with a 10-3 overall record. Two of Notre Dame’s losses have been by one goal.

“I’m thrilled for Crysti. It’s a well-deserved honor and great recognition for her outstanding accomplishments this season. The numbers speak for themselves,” said head coach Tracy Coyne.

“Crysti has worked so hard to get to this level. She’s totally dedicated herself to being one of the best and she’s done it within the team concept. She is such an unselfish player who does whatever it takes to help this team win. I’m so happy for her.”

Foote’s record-setting season has pushed her to the top of Notre Dame’s all-time scoring list. She is the program’s all-time leader in goals (138) and points (198) while ranking fourth in assists with 60. She goes into this week’s BIG EAST game at Rutgers on April 23 with a 23-game scoring streak that started on March 24, 2005.
