Crysti Foote Named BIG EAST Player Of The Week For Second Consecutive Week

March 7, 2006

Notre Dame, Ind. – Notre Dame senior women’s lacrosse standout, Crysti Foote (Suffern, N.Y.) has been selected as the BIG EAST offensive player of the week for the second consecutive week. Foote continued her amazing early-season play last week in wins over Ohio University and Cornell, scoring nine goals and adding seven assists for 16 points in the two games.

Joining Foote on the BIG EAST honor roll for the week ending March 5 is defensive standout Meaghan Fitzpatrick (Jr., Farmingdale, N.Y.). She collected seven ground balls, three draw controls and caused five turnovers in the two games.

In Notre Dame’s 18-6 win over Ohio University, Foote scored four goals and added four assists for eight points. Her first goal of the game, in the first minute of play was the 100th goal of her career, making Foote the fourth player in the program’s 10-year history to score 100 goals in her career.

She followed that eight-point performance with another in the 17-15 win over No. 18 Cornell. This time, Foote equaled a Notre Dame record by scoring eight points (5g, 3a) in the first half. That equaled the mark set by Kerry Callahan `99 on March 24, 1997 when she had eight points (5g, 3a) in the first half versus Stanford.

Foote also had eight draw controls and two caused turnovers in the two games. Through five games, Foote has 21 goals and 10 assists for 31 points and leads the Irish with 14 draw controls.

Fitzpatrick was part of a defensive effort that yielded 21 goals in the two games. Versus Ohio, she grabbed three ground balls; had one draw control and two caused turnovers. In the win over Cornell, Fitzpatrick had four ground balls; two draw controls and three ground balls on the afternoon.

For the season, the junior defender is third in ground balls (10) and tied for the team lead with seven caused turnovers.

Foote and Fitzpatrick, along with their Notre Dame teammates return to action this week with a pair of home games. On Wed., March 8, the Irish play host to Lehigh at the Loftus Center in a 4:00 p.m. game. On Sun., March 12, Notre Dame faces James Madison in a 12:00 noon game.
