Cross Country Men And Women Sweep National Catholic Championship

The University of Notre Dame men’s and women’s cross country teams walked away with both team titles at the 2003 National Catholic Invitational, run on the Burke Memorial Golf Course Friday afternoon.

The Irish women, ranked third in the country, were led by individual winner Kerry Meagher. Meagher completed the 3,000K course in 17:45 and was quickly followed by three teammates. Senior Maggie Nelsen finished second sophomore Elizabeth Webster was third and classmate Jean Marinangeli ended up fourth. Senior Katie Wales rounded out the scoring runners for Notre Dame by finishing seventh.

The men’s effort was keyed by sophomore Kaleb Van Ort and junior Sean O’Donnell. Van Ort finished second overall, followed by O’Donnell in third place. Junior Ryan Johnson took sixth, followed by Brian Kerwin in seventh and Austin Weaver at 18th.

St. Francis (Pa.)’s Ryan Sheehan won the men’s individual title.

Freshman Ann Mazur won the women’s JV race for Notre Dame, while junior Terry Lennon won the men’s JV race for the Irish.
