Compton Family Ice Arena To Play Host To A USHL Game

March 6, 2012

Notre Dame, Ind. – Even though the Notre Dame hockey home schedule is finished for the 2011-12 season, more hockey will be played at the Compton Family Ice Arena this spring. On Saturday, April 14, the new home of Fighting Irish hockey will play host to a United States Hockey League (USHL) contest as the Indiana Ice will play host to the Des Moines Buccaneers at 7:05 pm.

The game, an Indiana Ice home game, is being moved to the Compton Family Ice Arena due to a scheduling conflict at the Pepsi Coliseum in Indianapolis, Ind.

The USHL is the only Tier 1 hockey league in the United States and plays a key role in developing players for the Division I college hockey ranks. Twenty-three members of the current Notre Dame roster have played games in the USHL during their playing careers.

Two members of this year’s Notre Dame team – freshman Peter Schneider (Vienna, Austria) and sophomore T.J. Tynan (Orland Park, Ill.) – are alums of the Indiana and Des Moines organizations. Schneider played for the Ice last season and Tynan was a member of the USHL all-rookie team while a member of the Buccaneer’s roster in 2009-10.

As of March 5, Indiana is in second place in the USHL’s Eastern Conference with a record of 28-12-6 for 62 points in the standings, one point ahead of third-place Youngstown and three ahead of fourth-place Dubuque.

Des Moines starts the week with a 20-23-4 mark, good for 44 points and is currently in fifth place in the USHL’s Western Conference.

Tickets for the USHL game featuring the Indiana Ice and the Des Moines Buccaneers will go on sale on Wednesday, March 7 at the Murnane Ticket Office at Notre Dame, by calling 574-631-7356 or by logging onto the Notre Dame website at UND.com/tickets. Prices start at just $10 for adults and $5 for youth/seniors. Service charges may apply.
