Comeback Falls Short At Boston College

The University of Notre Dame men’s basketball team (9-13, 6-10) scored 55 points in the second half, but eventually fell short in a come-from-behind bid at Boston College (4-13, 2-9), 94-90, at Conte Forum on Saturday afternoon. The Irish were led by junior guard Prentiss Hubb with a career-high 28 points, while the home team Eagles – playing on Senior Day – saw four players score over 17 points to earn the win.

Boston College built a seven-point lead over the first 20 minutes, taking advantage of six Irish turnovers in the first half. Notre Dame trimmed into the lead throughout the second half, cutting a double-digit lead to five points with 1:51 remaining. Jay Heath, who led Boston College with 19 points, hit a deep right wing three pointer to put the home team back up eight points and effectively seal the game.

The teams then traded points back and forth from the Boston College free throw line (the Eagles shot 32 free throws in the game as the Irish extended the contest by putting the home team at the line) while Notre Dame drove to the basket in an attempt to score quickly. After Heath’s big shot, Notre Dame converted on five consecutive lay ups at the rim while Boston College limited the three-point attempts from the outside.

Boston College closed out the victory by converting five of their final six free throw attempts.

Hubb led five Notre Dame scorers in double figures, with Trey Wertz adding 17 points and Nate Laszewski scoring 10 points with nine rebounds.

Notre Dame returns to Purcell Pavilion on Wednesday, March 3, to face NC State at 7 p.m. ET on the ACC Network.
