NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Freshman Colin Babcock was named the Louisiana Swimmer of the Year, as announced recently by the Louisiana Swim Association. Babcock, a native of Covington, La., was the award winner in the state’s 13-18 year-old division.

Babcock swam for Blast Swim Club, was a two-time Louisiana state champion and earned All-American honors in the 200 individual medley and 100 breast. While prepping at St. Paul’s School (La.), he set seven program records and was the first swimmer to earn the school’s Jimmy Dunn Memorial Award for best all-around senior athlete.

Babcock and the Irish host the Dennis Stark Relays next Friday (Oct. 8) at the Rolfs Aquatic Center to begin the 2010-11 season.
