Mike Brey’s continuing efforts for the fight against cancer hit record numbers this year with the second annual Coaches vs. Cancer Golf Tournament and the inaugural Community For A Cure a two-day event lead-in to the golf tournament. The collaboration of the two programs raised more than $140,00 dollar for the CVC Program and the American Cancer Society.

Community For A Cure was a prelude to the golf event and featured a radio-a-thon hosted by The WSBT Radio Group and as well as a free-throw shooting contest.

Festivities for the golfing event began with a silent auction and cocktail reception on August 17 at the Blue Heron at Blackthorn. A scramble golf tournament took place the next day (August 18) at the Blackthorn Golf Club, followed by a celebrity dinner featuring Brey and his coaching staff.

The golf tournament raised approximately $57,000 for the CVC program. Foursomes for the event were sold out months in advance.
