NOTRE DAME, Ind. — Notre Dame’s athletic coaches and the Irish athletic department staff will help the University’s fundraising efforts for United Way by playing host to a Coaches’ Car Wash from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. EST, on Thursday, Aug. 31, 2000, on the Gold Field parking lots just west of Eck Baseball Stadium.

Notre Dame’s coaches, their staffs and members of the athletic administration will take part in the event, with Irish women’s basketball coach Muffet McGraw, baseball coach Paul Mainieri and director of recservices & fitness Sally Derengoski coordinating the event.

There is a $5.00 donation to have your car washed — and the public is invited.

The Coaches’ Car Wash is one of a number of United Way fund-raisers and events planned by various campus units for the next several months. Included in that list are a Sept. 13 luncheon for University deans, department heads and directors, at which Mainieri and Dean Carolyn Woo of the Mendoza College of Business will speak, as well as a Sept. 27 campus kickoff luncheon.

The University of Notre Dame is the largest contributor to United Way in St. Joseph County. The University’s contribution in 1999 was $295,444 (up $85,000 since 1995), with 1,487 employees participating.

There are 33 agencies in St. Joseph County receiving United Way funding. Notre Dame employees may give to the general fund or name a specific agency they wish to support.
