Bio

Nick Mainieri – who served as a valuable reserve catcher on the 2004 and `05 Notre Dame baseball teams – has joined his father Paul[apos]s staff as an undergraduate student assistant coach during his senior year in 2005-06.

Mainieri appeared in 17 games during the 2004 and `05 Notre Dame seasons, scoring four runs with two RBI and four walks. He served the key role as the program[apos]s primary bullpen catcher during both seasons, helping prepare the various starters and relievers for their pitching appearances.

A battle-tested athlete at St. Joseph[apos]s High School, Mainieri served as the starting quarterback for SJHS and was one of eight former prep quarterbacks on the 2005 Notre Dame baseball team. A three-year football letterwinner, Mainieri became the program[apos]s first sophomore ever to start at quarterback and served as team captain during his senior season.
He enters the 2006 spring semester with a 3.39 cumulative grade-point average and is on pace to graduate in May from the College of Arts and Letters, with a degree in English.
