In addition, his efforts have helped the Irish land five consecutive top-20 recruiting classes, including this year[apos]s crop of incoming freshmen, which was ranked third in the nation, according to the Blue Star Basketball Index. In [apos]99, McGuff was named the third-best assistant coach in the country by Women[apos]s Basketball Journal.

While at Miami, McGuff coordinated all the scouting efforts and assisted with the internal and external operations of the program. He also served as director of the summer camp basketball program.

Prior to becoming an assistant on the Miami staff, he was a graduate assistant in the marketing and promotions office during the 1992-93 school year. That same year, he also served as assistant girls[apos] basketball coach at Badin High School in Hamilton, Ind., and helped guide that squad to a 25-1 record.

A native of Hamilton, Ohio, McGuff played basketball at St. Joseph[apos]s (Ind.) College from 1988-92. As team captain his senior year, he led the Pumas to the Great Lakes Valley Conference championship and a berth in the NCAA Division II tournament.

McGuff earned his bachelor[apos]s degree in business administration from St. Joseph[apos]s in 1992 and received his master[apos]s in sports studies with a major in sports organization from Miami in 1993.
