Bio

Katie Capps joined the University of Notre Dame in May 2015 and currently serves as Associate Athletics Director for Administration & Business Strategy. She is also Sport Administrator for Women’s Lacrosse and Cheerleading.

In her role as Associate Athletics Director, Capps oversees strategic initiatives for the department while also serving as an advisor to the Deputy Athletics Director. As a member of the Athletics Business leadership team, Capps engages with all core business operations of the department, driving communication and facilitation of new strategic thinking and planning opportunities. She also represents the Deputy Athletics Director as requested, and oversees initiatives and special projects as needed.

Prior to her role in Athletics Business, Capps served as Associate AD for Administration. In this role she was part of the department’s Competitive Excellence team and served as a member of the Sport Performance Leadership Team.

Capps served as the Director of Operations for the Women’s Basketball program under Hall of Fame Coach Muffet McGraw from 2015-2019. The Fighting Irish were NCAA National Champions in 2018 and runner-up in 2019. She was responsible for the team’s business operations, management of the support staff, and coordination of team travel. She also served as the program’s liaison to various departments in the athletic department and on campus.

Capps came to Notre Dame following 11 seasons (2004-15) at the University of Kansas. During her tenure at Kansas, Capps was charged with coordinating business operations for the women’s basketball program, including team travel, community relations and directing summer camps. She also managed the Jayhawks’ annual coaches’ golf tournament, served as the program’s liaison with its Booster Club and assisted with on-campus recruiting, fundraising, game day management and student-athlete development.

Capps began her career at her alma mater, Western Kentucky University, where she spent the 2003-04 season as a graduate assistant. Capps graduated from WKU in 2002 with her bachelor’s degree in corporate and organizational communications. She was also a four-year letter winner on the women’s basketball team. Capps earned her master’s degree from the University of Kansas School of Education.

A native of Bloomington, Ill., she is married to Eric Capps, and the couple have three children — Charlie, Harrison and Winston.
