Bio

Jim Smith is in his ninth year as a member of the Notre Dame Athletics Facilities Staff and serves as the Program Manager for Crowd Control. Prior to taking on this position with the university, Smith served as the Assistant Coordinator of Stadium Personnel, as well as a Joyce Center Usher Supervisor, since 1994. When taking on his current position, Smith stepped down as President of Trucker’s Help Inc, a company that provides legalization services to the transportation industry. His work history also includes valued experience as Director of Purchasing for Dutchman Industries. Smith studied at both Indiana State University and Indiana University-South Bend while working toward a Bachelor’s degree in Criminology.

In addition, Smith has received certifications from the Play Like a Champion Today Training Series, Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Crowd Managers Training Program, and the NRA. He is also a graduate of the International Association Venue Managers, Venue Management School. Smith’s free time is spent as an active member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and Elkhart Rifle and Pistol Club. However, his family remains the most cherished aspect of his life. His wife of 31 years is Leslie. Together, they have two children: Andrew, a 2013 Villanova graduate who married his wife Claire in 2018 and is expecting their first child; and Erin, who graduated from St. Mary’s College in 2014 and has become the family’s world traveler.
