Coach Handrigan Signs Three in 2020 Class

Notre Dame family welcomes Tucker Clark, Angelo Marcon and Stewart Slayden

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Here come the Irish took on a new meaning on Wednesday when the early signing period officially kicked off. University of Notre Dame men’s golf head coach John Handrigan was pleased to announced the signing of three members to the 2020 class: Tucker Clark, Angelo Marcon and Stewart Slayden.

“Our current top-10 national ranking is not possible without signing the best recruits in the country, and those signings have continued with Tucker, Stewart, and Angelo,” Notre Dame head coach John Handrigan stated. “These three student-athletes are elite athletically and academically and will be great assets to our program.”

Tucker Clark

Hailing from Scottsdale, Arizona, Clark attends Arcadia High School. Clark is a two-time Arizona state champion with the Titans and even made it a clean sweep by claiming the individual state title as well in 2018. For his efforts, Clark was a 2017 & 2018 Arizona High School Athlete of the Year nominee.

Clark has achieved five top-five AJGA finishes, including a second place showing at AJGA Sergio Garcia (70-70-72). Clark also notched top-20 showings at the 2019 Western Junior Championship and the 2019 Junior Players Championship. Furthermore, Clark was ranked 15th in the Class of 2020 by Junior Golf Scoreboard.

Angelo Marcon

Hailing from San Francisco, California, Marcon attends Sacred Heart Cathedral, where he has qualified for the Central Coast Section (CCS) each year as an individual. This past summer, Marcon recorded a strong showing at the FCG Callaway World Championship, carding a 14-under par after three rounds to earn second place. Marcon also achieved a second place finish at the AJGA Woodbridge with a three-under par.

Other notable finishes for Marcon include a seventh place finish at the AJGA Bass Pro Shops/Payne Stewart Championship, along with a 12th place showing at the AJGA Eagle Crest Championship. When asked what the highlight of his career thus far has been, Marcon responded, “shooting a 63 and tying the course record at Peacock Gap.”

Stewart Slayden

Hailing from Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, Slayden attends Ponte Vedra High where he has led the Sharks to three Florida state championships. In fact, in 2017, Slayden won the FHSAA Class 2A individual state title as a sophomore and was later honored as ‘Mr. Florida Golf.’ Speaking of honors, Slayden was also bestowed with the AJGA-USGA President’s Leadership Award Honorable mention.

Slayden took home a runner-up finish at the 2019 Florida Boys Junior Amateur, and also earned an 11th place showing at the 2019 Arnold Palmer Invitational. Other notable finishes include third at the Bishop Gate Boys Junior Championship and 16th at the 2018 Florida Amateur. Currently, Slayden boasts an AJGA Rolex rank of 42.

“These players have all been extremely successful performing at the highest level and I expect each one of them to make an immediate contribution to our team’s success,” Handrigan continued. “Not only do we recruit superior student athletes, but also young men of high character who will make significant contributions to our program’s culture. All three will represent the Notre Dame brand with class and have a positive impact on our core values.
