Club Four Claims Third At Head of the Charles

The University of Notre Dame Rowing Team began its 2016-17 season this weekend at the Head of The Charles Regatta in Boston and Cambridge, Mass., with an impressive showing by the Club Four, which claimed third in its time trial (19:29.856).

Coxswain Laura Schoonmaker, along with Gen Johanni, Lauren Matchett, Meredith Swartz and Christine Schindele-Murayama started 52nd in the Women’s Club Four event, but finished with the third-best time behind Penn (19:08.815) and Wisconsin (19:12.848).

The regatta continues tomorrow when the Women’s Championship Four and Women’s Championship Eight take to the water in the afternoon. Coxswain Samantha Hedrick will be in the Championship Four for the Irish with Elizabeth Walter, Kelly Fischer, Bridget Adam and Molly Pierce, with the time trial starting at 2:02 p.m. ET.

The Championship Eight will feature Reilly Kearney ( c ), Erin Boxberger, Elizabeth Schrieber, Laura Migliore, Treasa O’Tighearnaigh, Moira Hamilton, Gretchen Bruggeman, Elizabeth Gilbert and Catherine Wagner.

Also competing on Saturday was Notre Dame’s alumnae women’s eight boat, with Christina Dines ( c ), Teresa Rubinger, Elizabeth Kelley, Carol Ann Michel, Erin McConnell, Kelsey Haddad, Kate Suyo, Ching Ting Hwang and Paige Aiello finishing 19th in their competition with a time of 18:40.243 and earning a spot for the Notre Dame alumnae boat in next season’s Head of the Charles.
