Citron a Six-Time ACC Freshman of the Week

Ties program record for award

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Atlantic Coast Conference showed some love to Notre Dame guard Sonia Citron on Valentine’s Day, naming her its Freshman of the Week. Citron is now a six-time winner of the award, not only marking the most of any freshmen in the ACC this year, but also tying the program record.

Citron ties fellow six-time winner and 2019 alumna Brianna Turner, and if you go further back into the program’s Big East days, it ties Jacqueline Batteast (01-02) and Alicia Ratay (99-00) as well.

In addition, her six ACC Freshman of the Week honors are the most by a student-athlete in the same season since North Carolina’s Janelle Bailey had seven during the 2017-18 campaign.

The Eastchester, New York, native grabbed eight boards and scored 15 points in the win over Miami. The freshman recorded a strong fourth quarter in which she scored eight of her 15 points.

Citron also had a solid outing at No. 3 Louisville, despite the loss, leading the team with 13 points, nine of which came in the third quarter. She also grabbed eight rebounds in that matchup as well.

Citron and the rest of the No. 19 Fighting Irish return to action in a big road matchup at No. 16 Georgia Tech on Thursday, Feb. 17. Tip is slated for 8 p.m. ET on ACC Network.
