LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Amanda Cinalli’s 34th career goal held up as the game’s only score, as the 24th-ranked Notre Dame women’s soccer team extended its unbeaten streak versus BIG EAST teams to 26 games (25-0-1) with Friday night’s 1-0 win at 25th-ranked Louisville. It marked the eighth time this season in 11 total games (including a pair of preseason exhibitions) that the Irish have faced a team ranked in the national top-25.

Notre Dame (4-4-1, 2-0-0 BIG EAST) controlled the run of play with a 12-5 shot edge, five of the game’s six shots on goal and a 4-1 corner-kick margin. The only shot on goal for Louisville (6-2-0, 1-1-0) came in the 85th minute, on a harmless try from long range, while three of the Cardinals’ five total shots

Junior forward Kerri Hanks was not credited with an assist but her shot from the right side of the box led directly to the goal midway through the opening half. Cinalli gathered the deflection off a Louisville player and showed her veteran poise by quickly sending a 12-yard shot into the lower left corner of the net (23:27). It was the third goal of the regular season for the senior team captain, who also opened the scoring in the preseason exhibition versus North Carolina and scored twice more in the 3-1 exhibition win over Virginia.

Cinalli remains one assist shy of becoming the 12th player in Notre Dame history to reach 30 goals and 30 assists in her career. She also is three points away from becoming the program’s 16th all-time player to reach the century mark while her 34 career goals are tied for 16th in the program’s history with Amy VanLaecke.

Sophomore forward Michele Weissenhofer – who had missed the previous two games due to an ankle injury – played 17 minutes off the bench, with senior Susan Pinnick earning her fifth career start (alongside Hanks and Cinalli on the forward line).

Freshman forward Rose Augustin was involved in two late scoring chances, the first coming when she was taken down hard in the box (no penalty kick was awarded). Minutes later, a thru-ball from Hanks sprung Augustin but ‘keeper Joanna Haig dashed out to cutr down the angle and Augustin’s ensuing shot sailed just wide of the left post.

Sophomore center back Haley Ford’s nagging hamstring injury held her out of action for the fifth straight game, as the Irish again started a pair of freshmen on the back line (center back Lauren Fowlkes and right back Julie Scheidler) alongside juniors Carrie Dew (center back) and Elise Weber (left back).
