Christmas Present For Colson: ACC Player Of The Week

Dec. 26, 2017

University of Notre Dame men’s basketball senior forward Bonzie Colson was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week on Tuesday, December 26, 2017, after leading the Irish through two victories before the Christmas holiday break.

Colson, the 2017-18 ACC Preseason Player of the Year averaged 26.5 points, 10.5 rebounds and 3.0 blocks per game in Notre Dame’s victories over Dartmouth and Southeastern Louisiana. He shot .618 from the floor and .556 from three-point range in the two wins.

Against Dartmouth, Colson exploded for a career-high 37 points (which is tied for the most in a single game in the ACC this season) on 15-of-21 shooting while adding three steals and two blocks.

Following up against Southeastern Louisiana, Colson was on pace for another huge game before a bloody nose, suffered in a collision under the basket, sidelined him for 10 minutes in the first half. The New Bedford, Massachusetts, native was still able to post his eighth double-double of the season against the Lions with 16 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks in 28 minutes.

The weekly ACC award is the third of Colson’s career at Notre Dame, along with December 5, 2016, and February 13, 2017.
