Christine Lux becomes the first NFCA All-American since Stephanie Brown in 2006

Christine Lux Garners All-America Honors From The NFCA

May 28, 2009

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Notre Dame junior Christine Lux (Glendale Heights, Ill./Glenbard Heights) has been named a Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) third-team All-American. As voted on by the All-America committee, Lux has become the programs’s 17th NFCA All-American and the first for the program since Stephanie Brown received third-team honors following the 2006 season.

Over the course of the 60-game season, Lux started for the Irish in 59 of those contests. She went on to amass a .329 batting average while also tallying 15 home runs, a number that ties the program’s single-season mark for home runs that she herself set in 2008. Her 33 career home runs has already moved her into second place on the career list behind only Jarrah Myers, who totaled 36 from 1999-2002. Lux has also placed her name near the top of the list in RBI categories for the Irish both on the season and in her career. Her 51 RBI this year place her third all-time in a single campaign, behind only Melanie Alkire (64) and Meagan Ruthrauff (54), while her 112 career RBI has moved her into 11th place on the career leaderboard.

Lux’s output for the Irish helped lead Notre Dame to a 43-17 record (19-4 in BIG EAST) on the season, including capturing the BIG EAST Conference tournament championship, with a 1-0 victory over No. 19 DePaul. The tournament title marked the fifth BIG EAST crown in program history, with the last time coming back in 2006. By the end of this season, the Irish had climbed to No. 25 in the polls and grabbed a spot in the Ann Arbor Regional of the NCAA tournament. It marked the 13th time the Irish had been selected to play in the NCAA tournament, as well as marking the 11th straight appearance.

Along with being selected as an NFCA third-team All-American, Lux also was one of five Irish players selected to the NFCA All-Region team this season. She also received first-team all-BIG EAST accolades. The honor is the second of her career after being selected as a third team member in 2008. She also was selected to the BIG EAST Championship all-tournament team for her work at first base during the tournament. In addition to her athletic achievements, Lux also received CoSIDA Academic All-District honors with a 3.42 grade point average as an accounting major.
