NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Sophomore Christi Girton (Muncie, Ind.) has been named BIG EAST Co-Player of the Week for her strong performances in Notre Dame’s three matches last week. Girton, an outside hitter, shares the honors this week with Georgetown’s Kiran Gill.

Girton led the Irish to wins over conference foes Boston College (3-0) and Providence (3-1). Against the Eagles, Girton hit .526 with a team-high 10 kills on just 19 attempts. In the match versus the Friars, she hit .368 (16 kills, 2 errors and 38 attempts). Girton also led Notre Dame in a loss to eighth-ranked Florida with nine kills and eight digs. For the week, she recorded 35 kills (3.5 per game), 27 digs (2.7 per game), nine blocks and three aces.

Girton, who was named BIG EAST Rookie of the Week in 1997, joins Irish captain Lindsay Treadwell (Austin, Texas) as the only Notre Dame players to receive such an honor this season.
