Chris Thomas Named Finalist For Bob Cousy Point Guard of the Year Award

Notre Dame, Ind. – Chris Thomas (Indianapolis, Ind.) has been named one of 19 finalists for the 2005 Bob Cousy Collegiate Point Guard of the Year Award. Thomas was a finalist for the honor a year ago.

The 6-1, 190-pound senior leads the Irish in scoring with a 14.7 scoring average. He also is averaging a team-leading 6.8 assists and 2.6 steals, in addition to career-best 5.1 rebounds.

Thomas owns a career scoring average 17.6 points per game and has started in a Notre Dame record 112 consecutive games. He owns Notre Dame career marks for assists (726) and steals (218) and stands sixth in scoring with 1,974 career points. A four year-starter, Thomas has averaged 37.5 minutes per game and has played all but 310 minutes during his four seasons. He has twice earned second-team all-BIG EAST honors (2003 and 2004) and was a third team selection in 2002. Thomas was named the National Freshman of the Year by Basketball Times and Basketball News following his freshman season and was honored as a BIG EAST Rookie of the Year in’02.

He led the Irish in assists in each of his first three seasons and is the only player in school history to register back-to-back season with 200-plus assists. Thomas’ 252 assists during his freshman season set a Notre Dame single-season record.

Byers (Lebanon Valley), Travis Diener (Marquette), Raymond Felton (North Carolina), Tim Forbes (Bentley), Tom Harrington (Baldwin-Wallace), Chris Hernandez (Stanford), Julius Hodge (North Carolina State), Jerritt Jack (Georgia Tech), Erik Jackson (Macalester), Carl Krauser (Pittsburgh), Dave Logan (Indianapolis), Aaron Miles (Kansas), Rob Monroe (Quinnipiac), Josh Mueller (South Dakota), Chris Paul (Wake Forest), C.J. Watson (Tennessee) and Deron Williams (Illinois).

Presented by the Basketball Hall of Fame, the Bob Cousy Award is being awarded for the second year. Jameer Nelson of St. Joseph’s won the award in its inaugural season.
