Chiang Continues Dominance On 3-Meter Boards

Feb. 11, 2012

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Notre Dame junior diver Jenny Chiang did it again on Saturday evening, winning her third consecutive 3-meter title at the BIG EAST Diving Championships at Trees Pool in Pittsburgh, Pa.

Chiang, who entered the finals in fourth place, joins elite company in Notre Dame history, becoming just the sixth individual to win three BIG EAST titles in the same event. She is only the second diver to win three titles in one event, joining Meghan Perry-Eaton, who won the 1-meter title from 2003-05.

She will have an opportunity next year to become the second Irish women’s performer to claim four titles in one event after Kelly Hecking won the 100 back from 1999-2002.

The Fairport, N.Y., native scored 320.90 points to beat Danielle Cecco (309.95) of Connecticut by just under 11 points. Chiang ended the meet with a pair of all-BIG EAST scrolls after finishing second on Friday night in the 1-meter dive.

Joining Chiang in the finals was fellow Irish diver Allison Casareto, who placed seventh with 247.45 points a night after earning a second place finish in the 1-meter dive.

In the consolation finals, freshman Jordan Russell took third with a score of 235.45.

With the diving portion of the BIG EAST Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships in the books, the swimmers take center stage next Wednesday through Saturday. Fans will be able to follow the championships via live results and the free live video that is available on the BIG EAST website.
