Carrie Nixon Completes Olympic Trials Competition

Notre Dame senior All-American Carrie Nixon (Ouray, Colo.) took 21st place in the 50-meter freestyle at the 2000 U.S. Olympic Swimming Team Trials in Indianapolis, Ind. on Tuesday. Her time of 26.45 was just a second off the winner, Dara Torres from Stanford University.

Nixon competed in three events at the 2000 trials, taking 29th in the 100-meter butterfly and 38th in the 100-meter freestyle. She will return to Notre Dame for the 2000-2001 school year after becoming the first Irish women’s swimmer to win a preliminary heat, the 50-meter freestyle, at the 2000 NCAA Championships. She went on to record the highest finish ever for an Irish swimmer at the national championships, taking fourth in the finals of the 50-meter freestyle.
