Burke Lifts Irish To 2-1 Overtime Win at Michigan Tech

HOUGHTON, Mich. — Cam Burke’s first career two-goal game lifted No. 17 Notre Dame to a 2-1 overtime win at No. 16 Michigan Tech on Friday night at the John MacInnes Student Ice Arena. 

Burke’s second goal of the night came with just 5.3 second left in overtime, with the assists going to Max Ellis and Spencer Stastney. 

Junior goaltender Ryan Bischel made 26 stops to earn the win, while the Irish penalty kill went 6-for-6 on the night including killing off 1:27 of a Michigan Tech power play to start the overtime period. 

Burke opened the scoring at 10:43 of the second period, when he tapped in a rebound at the far post for his second goal in as many games. Ryder Rolston had the shot on goal that Michigan Tech goaltender Blake Pietila fought off, while Grant Silianoff had the second assist on the play.

Michigan Tech’s Ryland Mosley tied the game at 1-1 with 54 seconds left in the third period to force the overtime. 

Pietila finished with 28 saves. Notre Dame was 0-for-4 on the power play, while Michigan Tech was 0-for-6.

  • Notre Dame played at Michigan Tech for the first time since the 1981-82 season.
  • Junior goaltender Ryan Bischel made his first start of the season, marking his first start since Feb. 13, 2021. 
  • After scoring once in 14 games last season, Cam Burke now has three goals in two games to start the 2021-22 season.
  • It marked Burke’s first career two-goal game and his second career multi-point game. 
  • Burke now has 10 career goals with four of those proving to be game winners.
