Bryan Costabile Named ACC Offensive Player Of The Year

The junior has a career-high 37 goals this season

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – For the fourth time in the last five years, the Atlantic Coast Conference has named a Notre Dame student-athlete either Offensive or Defensive Player of the Year, as midfielder Bryan Costabile was named ACC Offensive Player of the Year on Friday.

Costabile joins John Sexton (Defensive POY) and Matt Landis (two-time Defensive POY), as Notre Dame winners of the yearly honors.

The ACC accolade is just the latest in a long list of honors for the junior. Costabile is a Tewaaraton Award nominee, a two-time All-ACC selection, a 2018 All-American and a three-time ACC All-Tournament Team choice. Costabile was also named a 2019 Inside Lacrosse First Team Midseason All-American.

Costabile (Sykesville, Maryland) has powered the attack from the midfield during the 2019 campaign, leading the team with 37 goals in 14 games of action, which is just three goals shy of tying the program record for most goals in a season by a midfielder (40 – Bill Bonde ’82). Costabile has had a number of big performances this season, totaling six hat tricks on the season, including three five-goal outbursts.

Costabile has scored 84 goals in his career and has added 11 assists for 95 points. The junior is already tied for 11th on the program’s career scoring list and has a shot at becoming the most prolific scoring midfielder in program history next season, as former great Sergio Perkovic holds the record with 110 goals.

The midfielder is a two-time ACC All-Academic recipient and is majoring in accountancy in the Mendoza College of Business.

The Irish host Johns Hopkins in the first round of the NCAA Championships at Arlotta Stadium at 7:30 p.m. ET on Sunday, May 12. The game will be broadcast on ESPNU.
