Five Things To Know

  • The Notre Dame baseball team plays host to Western Michigan for its final home game of the 2017 campaign. First pitch at Frank Eck Stadium is set for 6:05 p.m. and the game is available on ACC Network Extra (video), WatchND (audio) and 103.1 FM.
  • Tuesday will be the 137th meeting between Notre Dame and Western Michigan, with the Broncos the most common opponent in Irish history. Notre Dame leads the series, 69-66-1 with a 47-33 edge at home. The Irish also have captured seven of the last 10 meetings, including an 8-3 win last year at Frank Eck Stadium. Ryan Lidge went 4-for-4 in that win, while Ryan Smoyer gave up a pair of runs in 5.1 innings of work.
  • Frank Eck Stadium has been good to Mik Aoki’s club this season, with the Irish posting a 17-9 mark on their home diamond. Eight of those losses were in conference play, with the only non-conference loss at home thus far coming in the series finale against Austin Peay on Sunday. Additionally, six of the losses were at the hands of No. 2 Louisville and No. 13 Florida State.
  • After playing Western Michigan, the Irish turn their attention to a three-game ACC series at Boston College to conclude the regular season. Currently, Notre Dame stands 10th in the ACC standings, with the top 12 teams qualifying for the league championship, May 23-28 in Louisville. A series win at BC would clinch a berth in the tournament.
  • In addition to success at home, Notre Dame has posted a 23-4 record against unranked teams since March 4. The only losses came to Duke, NC State, Pitt and Austin Peay, with the Irish still winning two-of-three in the series with all four teams. The Irish have posted a 10-1 record in midweek games this season, with the only defeat coming at No. 18 Michigan, 4-3.
