Brady Quinn A Nominee For Cingular/ABC Sports All-American Of The Week

Oct. 3, 2005

The national player of the week nominations are in and the polls are officially open. Irish fans can cast their vote for Notre Dame quarterback Brady Quinn for the Cingular Wireless/ABC Sports All-America Player of the Week, the only major college football honor determined exclusively by fans. Quinn was nominated for the award after passing for 440 yards and three touchdowns in the Irish’s 49-28 win over Purdue. This is Quinn’s first nomination this year and second since the award’s inception.

Quinn is one of four candidates for the All-America Player of the Week, who are selected by a panel of ABC Sports and ESPN college football analysts. The other finalists are: University of Michigan running back Michael Hart, who rushed for 218 yards and one touchdown in the Wolverines’ 34-31 overtime win against Michigan State; University of Southern California running back LenDale White, who had 19 carries and a career-high of 197 yards and two touchdowns in the Trojans’ 27-20 come-back win over Arizona State; and University of Nebraska quarterback Zac Taylor, who had 36 completions and 431 yards passing – setting a new school record in completions and passing yards – in the Huskers’ 27-20 double-overtime win against Iowa State.

Previous Cingular/All-America Player of the Week winners this season include Georgia quarterback D.J. Shockley, Texas quarterback Vince Young, Texas A&M quarterback Reggie McNeal and University of Minnesota running back Laurence Maroney.

Who will be this week’s winner now rests solely in the hands of college football fans nationwide. Fans have until Wednesday, October 5 at 11:59 p.m. EST to submit their votes via wireless text messaging.* The winner will be announced October 6 in the first half of the ESPN Thursday Night College Football Game between NC State and Georgia Tech.
