Max Halloway • Jr. • Defensive End

On defense…

“We knew what they were going to do before the play even started. I mean we were calling it out. We were trying to knock them back and trying to make them lose yardage. At the end we came up a little short.”

On team’s effort…

“Effort is always the same. We always try and always go 110% and even though we didn’t come up with the W, I’m still proud of my guys.”

On protecting own end of field…

“The whole game was field position. I feel like we did a good job of keeping them on the other end. We set up our offense with some good opportunities.”

Bobby Swigert • So. • Wide Receiver

On touchdown pass…

“We actually ran that play last week and scored on it. Today we mixed it up a bit. I just ran a corner route. The safety was tight on me in the red zone. I almost lost it in the lights, but I caught it at the last second.”

On offensive effort…

“It wasn’t where we wanted it to be. We had a lot of opportunities we didn’t capitalize on. I thought we moved the ball pretty well. A couple of short third downs we definitely should have made. We shot ourselves in the foot a lot. We had an opportunity to win the game, and that’s all we can ask for I guess.”

On up-tempo offense… “I saw we were up tempo. Chase (Rettig) had a little bit of time. They had pressure on him the whole game so I thought he did a pretty good job throwing to guys with defenders in his face. I guess we threw in the same type of routes but we just connected on a few more of them.”

Luke Kuechly • Jr. • Linebacker

On handling the no-huddle offense…

“I thought we did fine. It didn’t catch us off guard. We knew it was coming. They just caught us on those first two drives. They kind of put us behind the 8-ball a little bit.”

On breaking the career ACC tackles record…

“I play football to win. I don’t try to set records. We lost, and that’s what it comes down to. We play to win – that’s how we do it at BC, and we just didn’t win today, so those records are cool, I guess, but we didn’t win.”

On playing a good field-position game…

“Quigs [Ryan Quigley] did a good job punting for us. We stopped them on a couple of third downs really quickly. But Ryan did a great job punting today and helped us out.”

On bending but not breaking…

“It’s just been the thing we’ve been trying to do all year. Bend, you give a couple yards, and then not break at the end because that’s when you give up points. So you end up giving them a couple field goals, but just not allow too many points.”

On limiting the big plays…

“We just try to keep everything in front of us and play how the coaches taught us. We did a good job. Floyd caught that little bubble – he turned it into a 25 yard gain. That happens when you play good players.”

Ryan Quigley • Sr. • Punter

On giving the defense a long field…

“That’s our job. We get in that situation around the 50-yard line or around the 40 – you’ve got to pin them deep. You’ve got a good team like Notre Dame with an offense that’s moving like that – we’ve got to help out our defense as much as we can. I had a great snap from my long-snapper Sean Flaherty and our gunners got down the field. They weren’t the highest kicks, but our guys got down the field and forced the fair catches.”

On getting good bounces…

“The grass here is long, and we knew before the game the ball wasn’t going to roll too much. It’s not like a turf field, so you can pin it down there a little deeper and hope for a soft bounce.”

Chase Rettig • So. • Quarterback

On the difference between the first and second halves…

“We had a little bit of different looks. They started blitzing a lot more, which from watching film I knew they were going to do. It kind of hurt us a little bit, and they mixed it up pretty well. But there’s no reason why every drive shouldn’t have been like the one in the first half and the last one.”

On what they did differently in the first-half scoring drive…

“It’s just the first time I felt we were spreading the ball around, giving me the opportunity to throw the ball and my receivers to make plays. We just executed.”

On the last drive…

“In a two-minute situation you try and score a touchdown and get an onside kick. And we were able to get the touchdown. We’ll just try to get better for next week.”
