Bjork Named Hockey East Co-Player Of The Week

NOTRE DAME, Ind. — After scoring a pair of goals to lead the No. 13/14 Notre Dame hockey team to a comeback win over No. 3/4 Boston College on Saturday night (Dec. 10) at a sold out Compton Family Ice Arena, junior forward Anders Bjork has been named the Warrior Hockey East Co-Player of the Week.

Bjork scored a power-play goal midway through the second period to cut the BC lead to 2-1. He then notched a shorthanded, highlight reel tally with 2:30 left in the second period for what proved to be the game-winning goal. Bjork had a game-high five shots on goal as the Irish outshot the Eagles 32-17, including a 21-9 count in shots on goal over the final two periods.

Bjork now has a league-best 13 goals on the season and ranks second in Hockey East with 28 points (13-15-28). A fifth round draft pick by the Boston Bruins in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft, Bjork’s 13 goals also rank tied second in the country, while his 28 points are tied for fourth. He has four game-winning goals, which is tied for second in the country and he has notched 12 points this season with the score tied, which leads the country.

Bjork, who has nine multi-point games this season, was also named the Hockey East Player of the Week on Oct. 10 and was named the Hockey East Player of the Month for October.

The Irish moved to No. 12 in the USCHO.com poll and to No. 14 in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll, both of which were released on Monday afternoon.

Dan Colleran, associate athletics communications director at the University of Notre Dame, has been a part of Fighting Irish Media since August 2015 and coordinates all media and publicity efforts surrounding the Notre Dame hockey and golf programs. A native of Walpole, Massachusetts, Colleran spent the previous three years working with the men’s hockey and soccer programs at Providence College. Colleran also spent two years as an Assistant Executive Director of Communications & Championships at the Ivy League and is a graduate of Providence College (’06 & ’08G).
