Bischel Picks Up Big Ten Honors

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – After a career weekend in net for Ryan Bischel, which included a shutout and career-high save performance, the senior goaltender has been named Big Ten Third Star of the Week as announced by the conference Tuesday.

Bischel recorded his second-straight home shutout, and fourth of his career, Friday night as the Irish topped Michigan State, 5-0. Registering 30 saves in the contest, the Medina, Minnesota, native carried his team to their first conference win on opening weekend of Big Ten action.

He followed up Friday’s performance in the crease with a career night, turning aside a career-best 41 saves to help his team to the 1-1 tie. His 41 save performance included a record 18 in the first period, holding the Spartan offense to just one goal as his team looked to even the tally after one period of play.

Bischel boasted a .986 save percentage on the weekend, allowing just one goal against on 72 shots faced and 124:52 in net.

This weekend, the Irish head to Bischel’s home-state as they take on No. 3/3 Minnesota, Nov. 4-5. Puck drop for both games is slated for  8 p.m. ET and will air on Bally Sports North Extra.
