Bischel Named To Richter Award Watch List

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – A senior netminder for the University of Notre Dame hockey team, Ryan Bischel has been named to the Mike Richter Award Watch List, awarded annually to the top collegiate goaltender, as announced by the Hockey Commisioner’s Association Thursday.

In 22 games played for the Irish in 2022-23, the Medina, Minnesota, native boasts a 2.70 goals against average while owning a 0.924 save percentage.

At 6-1, he stands tall between the pipes with 673 saves this season, ranked second nationally. Meanwhile, Bischel’s four shutouts currently leads the nation.

In four years with the Irish, Bischel has appeared in 53 games for the Blue and Gold, starting 48 contests, including having earned the nod to start every game for the Irish this season.

Bischel earned conference recognition following the team’s 1-0-1 record against Michigan State to close out the first month of the season. The netminder recorded 125 minutes in goal over the weekend series, stopping 71 of 72 shots faced over the two game stretch to earn Big Ten Third Star of the Week honors.

The senior is 26-19-1 in his career between the pipes and boasts six career shutouts as well as two assists.

This is his first appearance on the Mike Richter Award Watch List.
