Bischel Named Big Ten’s First Star of the Week

SOUTH BEND, Ind.  – Notre Dame junior goaltender Ryan Bischel has been named Big Ten Hockey’s First Star of the Week, the conference announced (Feb. 8).

Bischel helped lead the Fighting Irish to a weekend sweep of Penn State including a 7-2 win in game one (Feb. 4) and a 3-0 win in game two (Feb. 5). The Medina, Minnesota native stopped 67 of the 69 shots he faced in the series for a .971 save percentage. In game two, he made 35 saves to earn his second shutout of the season and of his career. 

On the season, Bischel is 10-4-0 with a .930 save percentage and a 1.93 goals against average. His save percentage ranks ninth nationally (third in the Big Ten), while his goals against average ranks 11th nationally (first in the Big Ten).
