The 2004 BIG EAST Championship at the Hartford Civic Center marked the first year the tournament was not played on the campus of a member institution, and as recently announced, will continue at the venue through 2009. The four-day championship will include all 12 BIG EAST teams and will be seeded based upon their regular season finish. Boston College, Connecticut, Georgetown, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, Providence, Rutgers, St. John’s, Seton Hall, Syracuse, Villanova and West Virginia will all be headed for Hartford. The winner of the conference championship earns the league’s automatic bid to the 64-team NCAA Division I Championship.

In last year’s BIG EAST Championship, Boston College won its first conference championship in program history with a 75-57 win over Rutgers at the Hartford Civic Center.
